Do you remember the good old days of 2007 when MTV's most popular show was about young 20 somethings in L.A.? Do you remember the villains of that show Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag? Well look at them now. Apparently they are sad, broke and full of regrets. In a new interview with "The Daily Beast" Spencer and Heidi opened up about their life post fame.
On their relationship: When asked if they'd ever split, this is how the two responded: "Spencer: 'No.' Heidi: 'No.' Spencer: 'Not for one minute.' Heidi: 'We've never even been apart.'"
On money: "We never had any!" Spencer told the Beast. They said they spent about $2 million on Heidi's failed music career. Additionally, they bought a whole lot of stuff they didn't need. "I probably spent a million dollars on suits and fancy clothes," Spencer said. "My whole million-dollar wardrobe -- I would never wear that again. They're props. Everything we were doing, we were buying props. I bought a big blue monster truck just to drive it on 'The Hills' for an episode. Never drove it again."
On plastic surgery: "Obviously I wish I didn't do it," she said. "I would go back and not have any surgery. It doesn't help. I got too caught up in Hollywood, being so into myself and my image. I don't regret anything, but if I could go back, I wouldn't do it... I made a lot of wrong decisions too quickly. So many wrong rights and lefts and then you're just off the road. Things happened so quickly."
On life post "fame": "It's like what 70-year-olds do," Spencer said. "We're reading a lot of books... Now all we eat are tacos and burritos. Whereas we used to eat at Cut." Heidi added: "We're watching movies... I do a lot of laundry. A lot of laundry. We're training our dogs, so I'm cleaning up less poop inside, which is great."
Basically they are trying to win back the public. You know what? I smell a couple fishing for a new reality show! I do see them coming back for one last hooray, but I doubt they are as broke as they claim. Spencer's family has money and I am sure they still support him in some way. They did bring this on themselves, however I ma sure they were playing a role, a role they could not play well. MTV left them before they left MTV. Spencer went crazy on the show and they were not even invited to the party for the last episode of "The Hills". Then he went crazy on another show and was sent home early. They are the classic case of fame gone bad. Heidi was quick and eager to put her name and or face on any and every product thrown her way, now she is a bad joke. Spencer was the over bearing boyfriend/manager who killed his career and Heidi's by association. Now the only thing they have, or so they claim, is love, if that. I am giving Spencer Pratt and Heidi Montag a Di
git Down, no sympathy from me at all.
Someone has a birthday... I wonder who? It is MTV's 30th birthday and my oh my has it changed. There are rarely any music videos played on the channel, unless you are up from 3AM-7AM. They launched and created something amazing, all music, all of the time, but eventually that went away. Why? It is expensive to run a channel without ads or sponsorship with just a single mindset, ask Speed.
(The moon-landing promo ran roughly 75,000 times on MTV, including 17,000 plays in MTV's inaugural year.)
I remember watching shows like Beavis & Butt-head and Daria and watching their Spring Breaks when they were way better than they are today, but they also used to be in Florida when Florida was okay with that. Even when they moved to Mexico it was not so bad for the 1st couple of years. At midnight August 1st, on the exact 30th anniversary of MTV's first broadcast, VH1 Classic will replay MTV's entire first hour of footage from 1981. The Buggles' "Video Killed the Radio Star" was the first video MTV ever played, but can anyone name the second? Maybe int he next 10, 20, 30 or so years MTV will add music back into their programming. I doubt it, but it could be a nostalgic thing, like TV Land or Nick at Nite. Still I am impressed with the longevity and revenue MTV pulls in and for that alone I am going to give MTV 2 Digits Up.
Well we all knew it would come to an end, and the end is near. Jersey Shore season 5 will be the last season, at least with the current cast. I am sure they will get a whole bunch of new wannabe celebrities ready to make asses of themselves for an extended 15 minutes of fame. The current cast however will be getting spin offs, yay... We already know Pauly D is getting his own show and Snooki and JWOWW are getting a show together. I am sure soemhow there will be a crappy show for The Situation and an abusive show for Sam and Ron. Poor Vinny may actually have to go back to college...HAHAHAHA. Anyway the current cast is making $100,000 an episode so a new cast would just be cheaper, fresher, and the producers would not have to make them stay inside because everyone on the shore would not know who they were, unlike the current cast. While I am giving this news a Digit Up I am already dreading the new Jersey Shore with the new cast. Oy.
No she is not getting her on reality show on VH1 like her former cast mates...yet. Kristin is getting married, to a football player, a starting football player. Kristin Cavallari and Jay Cutler are engaged to be married, she said, "He surprised her with a quick trip to Cabo to ask her to marry him." This marriage does not make sense to me. She seems about as mature as a 12 year going through puberty and he seems so blah. He is not good looking in anyway so I guess it is a marriage of means? I do not see this marriage lasting long, though for his sake I hope it does because he stands to lose a lot of money. Also if he does not perform well this season she will be blamed for it. His job is not on thin ice, but he is no Tom Brady in the stability department, especially after he gave up in t
he playoff last season. Any who I am going to give her a Digit Up for getting engaged and I guess doing better in life.
Back to the future because the future is now! DeLoreans, DeLorean DMC-12s to be exact, are back! People who loved these cars from the movie "Back to the Future" are buying these neat looking cars. Ke$ha drove one to the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards; will.i.am owns one; Kanye West and Die Antwoord are vocal fans. The British band Neon Neon devoted its entire 2008 album to the car. If that does not help get it back out there At least 4 movie projects are making the rounds in Hollywood. Imagine up to 4 movies out int he future about this car. The car is an icon. Though the look fast, they do not go over 130MPS, we are talking about a 2.6 liter V-6 engine and a 0-60 times in 10.5 seconds. Vroom vroom. They are not the most reliable either, if you own one you will spend a LOT on maintence, though if you own a Jaguar you would be used to this. But with all of that aside this car is one of the most recognizable symbols of the 80's. The man behind the car, John DeLorean, was even arrested for transferring a suitcase filled with 220LBS of cocaine. How 80's is that! With the popularity of the care starting to surge, the company has agreed to some licensing deals:
- Nike 6.0 Dunk SE DeLorean. The $90 sneaks started listing for $400 on eBay the day after they sold out online. Nike designers visited DMC during production to re-create DeLorean taillights in the sole of the shoes. The kicks came packaged in a silver box that opened on either side like gull-wing doors.
- Mattel Hot Wheels DeLorean edition. The tiny cars sold 400,000 units last year in the fourth quarter alone. A special Back to the Future version is due out this spring.
- Xbox Gran Turismo. Sony approached DMC "very early," Wynne said, but he turned them down. "They offered me a dollar for the licensing, and I said no—you're missing some zeros here. They came back two years later with some real money."
- The Hundreds. The L.A.-based design shop is heavily influenced by southern California's skateboarding and surf punk culture. The Hundreds partnered with DMC to produce a special run of DeLorean T-shirts and a wrap option for the DMC-12
I do plan on owning one of these cars int he near future. The originally sold for around $25,000 30 years ago and you can buy one from $11-$50,000. The expensive ones usually have a "Back to the Future" car kit on them. I am giving the DeLorean a major Digit Up because it is stil
l one of the coolest cars ever built.
Not long ago Lauren Conrad was MTV's reality show darling. Her show "The Hills' was a smash hit and she was selling books and a lifestyle that little tweens wanted. Then she left the show, it ended and now we have Jersey Shore. Due to their success MTV has pulled Lauren's show. Her new show was to premier this year and it was about her launching her fashion company etc. "We sold a show to MTV, filmed it and are really proud of the final result. MTV felt the subject matter was too high brow for their audience and offered me the opportunity to change the show by incorporating more of my personal life." Basically what this means is that her show as BORING! Not enough drama! This is what is halting the premiere of the Real Housewives of New York as well. Drama sells, fighting sells, ratings sell ads/ This is something that Lauren knows, but I guess she thought her old brand was still valuable to MTV, not. David Janollari, EVP, Head of Programming for MTV, told Entertainment Weekly magazine: "We decided not to go ahead with the show. She did do a pilot. There were talks about whether we could somehow manage to put together a special based on that footage but that's also a big question mark based on her interest in that and the finances. We love her! We would love her on our
network! It was a great attempt but it just didn't feel like a perfect fit for us now." Well Lauren, maybe Bravo or TLC will buy this, until then I am giving you a Digit Down.
Just when I thought that maybe this was going to be the last season of Jersey Shore... MTV has renewed their hit show for a 4th season. With super high ratings they are seeing a goldmine here. For the 4th season the gang is leaving the Shore and heading to Italy. I have no clue how this is going to work out for them or for Italy. I see them maybe hooking up with random Italians or American tourist. It sounds odd thinking about it. For sure though it will probably be a huge hit because people just cannot get enough of them..really they just cannot get enough. I will just give it a Digit Up because for
a few month they will be out of America which will make it harder for us to hear about them.
So MTV has a new show, that I am not watching, called "Skins". It is based on a British show of the same name. Basically it is about high school teens acting badly. Drugs, sex, rock and roll, parties, sex, etc. Advertisers have been pulling ads left and right; Wrigley, Taco Bell, General Motors and maybe more to come. The Parents Television Council hates this show with a passion calling it "the most dangerous show for children that we have ever seen..." They also think the show is boarder line child pornography, since some of the actors are under 18. Even some within MTV are bickering over the show and think that maybe the show should have never mad
e it to air. Anyway the show is here and it received 3.3 million viewers for its 1st episode, major numbers for cable television. I remember when Jersey Shore aired. MTV lost sponsors and people wanted the show cancelled. now we are on season 3 and the stars of the show have become a part of pop culture, household names, and millionaires. So all of the backlash over this show is just going to help it get more viewers. I am giving MTV and Skins a Digit Up. I am sure this show will become something very popular.
Who is Ted Williams? Well if you were online yesterday you might have come across this homeless man with a "Golden-Voice". He was spotted in Cleveland with a sign saying he had a "Golden-voice" and some officers put him to the test. He wowed them and all who watched the video. Literally 24 hours later he was cleaned and got a hair cut and some clothes and put on morning television for the rest of America and the world to see. He is becoming a wanted man as well, in the good way. The Cleveland Cavilers have offered him a full time job and house, but MTV and the NFL have also offered him jobs to do voice over roles. Even though he says he got caught up in drugs and alcohol and other stuff, his voice never left him, lucky guy. Watch the video below, it explains everything much better. I am all for this guy. He is representing the new America, the 2011 America. I like this so much that I am going to give him 2 Digits Up.
MTV may have dropped the music from its lineup, but the ratings did not follow. The ratings are actually up this year. Not since 1999 have the ratings jumped to much. The show leading the ratings surge, of course, is Jersey Shore. Teen Mom also helped. With these reality shows helping bring MTV back from obscurity you know that there are more to come. Some thought that when the hit show "The Hills" went off the air that MTV would possibly be in a ditch for a while, they were wrong. Along with their reality shows bringing in ratings, even the VMAs were up this year. I am sure people wanted to see what Lady Gaga would wear and who Kanye West would interrupt. Meat dress and no one. All in all this is good news for the viewers, bad n
ews for the music lovers. Although if you really love music you stopped watching MTV in 1992. MTV gets a Digit Up.
Are you kidding me? This movie made $50 million this weekend! This is the best October opening for any film ever! his would also be the 2nd best opening this year, Inception was 1st with $63 million. This movie was expected to take in around $30 million, but something must have clicked and fans rushed to see it. It could be the final film of the franchise so I am sure that helped. This movie finally knocked "The Social Network" out of 1st and into 3rd. I did not see this movie, I am not a movie person, if you knew me then you would have already known that... This is major when compared to the other movies. The 1st opened with $23 million and finished with $64 million. The 2nd with $29 million and finished with $73 million. So as you can see not only is this a huge opening but the finish could be just a
s huge. I hope they do not get any ideas to make a 4th because in all honesty the 3D aspect of the movie totally helped with the overall total, without it probably would have opened at $30 million or less. Any who I am still giving the movie a Digit Up for breaking records and for having a great weekend.
I applaud the President for his willingness to include young Americans in the political process and for listening to their voices with real concern. However I do not understand the purpose of the MTV Town Hall that took place. It could have been pretty good, but it was only an hour long. It was full of your typical rhetoric and whatnot, but some of the questions were good and made you think. A lot of questions were Tweeted in, but few were read. Bullying, bipartisanship, the economy, education and gay rights were all talked about. This event took over 3 channels, MTV, BET and CMT. I think it hit every teen demographic possible, minus those who may be into C-Span or the Biography channel. Yet
while there were good talking points, it did feel a tad like an election rally, although he did not mention anything of the sort, which brings me back to why. Why was this held now, on this date, at that time. Okay the time makes sense, but still why? I have yet to hear why or figure out why, it does not frustrate me but it makes me wonder...why hahaha. I am going to give this a Digit Up just this once because I think it probably made those young Americans there feel as if they were being listened too...important even, and that is always a plus.
Yet again Hollywood has decided to recycle some things only this time it is reality television taking the brunt of it. First let us start with another Kardashian show, woo whoo. This one will be called "Kim and Kourtney Take New York City". The show will be about how the two sisters are coming to New York to open another DASH store. Do those stores do that well? Doubt it. This is what Kim blogged, ""I could not be more excited to spend the next couple of months in one of my favorite cities. When we decided to open a new DASH store in the city, Kourt and I felt that someone needed to be here to help out with the store and make sure everything was running smoothly. After talking with my family, I decided that I would join Kourtney, Scott and Mason in NYC." So far it sounds like another E! "hit" but to me it will just be the same show in a new city...yawn.
Next something even worse, Justin Bieber will hosting the new version of Punk'd. ARE YOU SERIOUS! To be honest I was not a fan of the 1st version and now with Justin on bored oh boy
watch me turn my channel faster than Lindsay Lohan turns away from good advice. Is the joke that he is a joke, because I already knew that. Though Ashton Kutcher retired from the show in 2007 MTV always wanted the show to continue. Kutcher will remain as executive producer, more money for him to help pay for that probable divorce from Demi. I see this show getting ratings from tweens and teens who are fans of Bieber, that is the only reason they would want hi to host. His voice, lack their of, is fading due to puberty so why not us his fame to land as many gigs as he can before he hits the bankruptcy courts. I am giving both of these shows a Digit Down because they have been done before both literally and figuratively.
MTV is giving 2 people who helped make their recent reality show franchise HUGE a show of their own. Lauren Conrad from Laguna Beach and The Hills and Pauly D from Jersey Shore. First let us talk about Lauren. Lauren's new show is a reality documentary about her new fashion line. It is scheduled to start shooting this October. She left The Hills in 2009 and has been absent from television since. With this new show she will have more control over everything. I am sure it will be interesting, more interesting than it sounds, but honestly I could live without it. I am over her and The Hills. Next there is Pauly D. I am going to make this short. His new show apparently already has a title and a premise. It will be about him and his DJing career. It is scheduled to start shooting within a month. The 3rd season of Jersey Shore has already wrapped up so this made it possible for him to start this new project. I am not
looking forward to this show either. I am not interested in what he is doing or who he may be doing it with. I get enough of him and his friends on Jersey Shore. Again I can live without this. MTV seems to be running out of creative juice, typical Hollywood stuff. I am giving MTV a Digit Down.
I would usually have a fashion wrap and some other things for an event like this but to me it was all crap. It is not as prestigious as the Emmys, which I also though twas just okay at best. The show started with a pre-show, of course, and they had the audacity to have a white carpet, after Labor Day, animals! I could already tell that I was not going to enjoy the show. Chelsea Handler, who I love and her show is hilarious, did not deliver as well as I thought she would and that was my biggest disappointment of the night. I was not excited to see any of the performers, I am just not into what hey are selling. maybe I am getting old or maybe I am above it all or maybe it is so far ahead of my that I just cannot catch up but these "new" artist are just eh, I have seen it all before and better. To me there were 2 good moments; when Lindsay Lohan appeared during the opening skit and when C
her came out wearing her "If I Could Turn Back Time" lace costume. Other than that it just seemed like something I would not watch even if I had more than enough free time on my hand. Next year I hope they (MTV) get way more creative and I hope that the videos they nominate are current and not for songs 2 years old. Digit Down
