...Brad Pitt

Honestly this post is not really about Brad Pitt, but it is. Brad Pitt is talking a lot lately. He talked about his life before marriage, his life during marriage and his life with Angelina and the kids. He also talked about playing 2nd fiddle to Tom Cruise in "Interview with a Vampire". We all know that Brad is a private guy, as most A-List celebrities are, but why is he talking to much now? Oh yeah, how could I forget, he has a new movie coming out. I loathe when celebrities dodge the paparazzi and the general public 10 months a year, but as soon as they have a movie, book, album, etc. coming out they thrust themselves back into the spotlight and "open up" about their personal lives and how their latest project reflects that. After this movie comes out and it does good or bad at the theaters the next time you see Brad Pitt will be on a tabloid or at an awards show, and he probably will not talk unless he wins. Basically what I am saying is I do not think celebrities have to do a media tour to promote a project, that is what the millions of dollars worth of advertising the studios spend to promote the project is for. Also why must these celebs open up about their personal life? Why spend so much time protecting it from the press just to tell them about it when it is beneficial to you... I think I just answered my own question. I could care less about their lives or their projects. If it seems worthwhile people will embrace it and buy what you are selling, but if the project is a bunch of crap then you just wasted a little piece of yourself that you could have saved for a better project in the future. Brad Pitt is getting a Digit Down but really he is just taking this Digit for all the other celebrities who do this...so pretty much everyone.

...Glee: The 3D Concert Movie

Glee: The 3D Concert Movie premiered Friday and boy did it make a splash...in the kiddie pool. It opened at number 11 with a whopping $5.7 million. Why? Who knows, I do. This show is not as good as people make it out to be. Though I have never seen an episode, I do know that if you try to force something on people they usually rebel. Season 1 people loved it, oh they loved the singing and the use of gay teens and blah blah blah whatever. The show's creator quickly became a diva and so did Lea Michele. Any who here we are with a dismal box office bomb and well oh well.I do not see this show lasting past season 5, maybe 4 will be it. It is already replacing some of the show's characters, like Degrassi does, but unlike Degrassi, this show is made in America nad has to compete with a lot of shows in primetime that are not solely geared toward tweens and teens. I am giving this movie a Digit Down basically because...I do not like Glee period.

...Hangover Part II

First it was Mel Gibson who was supposed to make a cameo in the film, but he was removed due to some blah blah blah Hollywood business. Now ti seems that Mel's replacement Liam Neeson will also be replaced. Apparently the director, Todd Phillips, wanted to re-shoot the scene, and others, and Liam was just not available...So he was replaced. He has been replaced by the director of "The Notebook" Nick Cassavetes. This seems to be odd, though I am sure the reason is good enough for many. I am not sure I am going to see the money, I have no need to nor do I care enough. I just wonder if this will be the last somewhat controversial thing we hear about this movie before it is releases. Just last week the trailer for the movie was pulled from theaters and off sights online because it was too "raunchy". What is next for this film? Though the movie will probably go straight to number one when it is released and fans will love it and so on I am going to give this latest news a Digit Down. It reminds me of a less expensive version of "The Hobbit".

...Blockbuster

Blockbuster was bought by Dish Network for a measly $320 million. I say measly because less than a decade ago Blockbuster was the number 1 movie rental chain and was valued at $5 billion. Dish expects to pay about $228 million in cash to acquire Blockbuster's assets, which as of February 27 included more than $100 million of receivables and cash and a rental library estimated to be worth $175 million. Though this is possibly a very good move for Dish, the nations number 2 satellite company, behind DirecTV, it just shows how far Blockbuster has fallen. I remember when Blockbuster would be packed full of people over the weekend, now I can barely find one, or maybe I am just not looking for them. Thanks to the arrival and popularity of NetFlix and Redbox just a few years ago the high priced movie rental chain tumbled. With debt in the billions and having already filed for bankruptcy they started closing a lot of stores and selling off the retail space, something that Dish says it will continue. I am seeing a definite end to Blockbuster as an actual store, it may survive however online or with kiosk like their main competition. Blockbuster will be receiving a Digit Down for its horrible fall from atop the movie rental world.

...Laura Vikmanis

I am always complaining about how Hollywood has no original ideas and whatnot. Well Hollywood got one, sort of, and they are going to use it to punish me. Laura Vikmanis is the NFL's oldest cheerleader at age 42. She cheers for the Cincinnati Bengals and she is about to be forced on us because she is getting her life story told in the form of a movie. Are you kidding me? The film will be penned by Emily Cook and Kathy Greenberg, who co-wrote the animated film "Gnomeo and Juliet", which makes sense because this is only amovie that women would truly be interested in, or think they are interested in. I am already ready for this movie not to be a smash hit, a box office failure. You can listen to her sob story below. While you do that I will be giving her a Digit Down.

...Elizabeth Taylor

Sad news this morning, Dame Elizabeth Taylor has passed away at the age of 79. She died this morning in Los Angeles of congestive heart failure. She had been in the hospital for 6 weeks, but recently her children said she was doing better and feeling better, so much so that they were planning on bringing her home soon. For everything she was on screen she was even more off screen. A mother to 4 children, a grandmother to 10 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 4. A wife, 8 times over to 7 men. A brand, possibly one of the 1st actresses to brand herself, we all have heard of White Diamond, my mom still loves it. She was a great philanthropist, known around the world for her AIDS work, even starting the Elizabeth Taylor AIDS Foundation in 1991. Many things will be said about her, 90% good. She was a friend to many, a hero to others and a trailblazer for every actress today. She was the 1st actress to be paid $1 million for a film, Cleopatra. he was nominated for 5 Oscars, she won 2, and she won a special Oscar, the Jean Hersholt Humanitarian Award. From 12 to now she was in the spotlight and she carried herself as a lady should, with poise and civility. Maybe Sir Elton John summed it up best when he said, “We have just lost a Hollywood giant; more importantly, we have lost an incredible human being.” This is news gets 2 Digits Down.

...California

I may HAVE to move there. Why? Because it is where the industry lives. Movies and television shows are made there. New York City does it as well, but California is the state, Hollywood, and its surrounding cities, are the places whee things get made. I am not a huge fan of California, but it is okay. It is almost bankrupt and it has high taxes, insurance and real estate. I am not sure if I will enjoy living there, around people who are all pretty much the same. I do not want to become a celebrity, that is not my goal in life, but I do wan to make television interesting, new shows, possibly a movie or two. Florida is my home state, it is cool, but Miami is the location for things, and even that is limited. Miami is...Hollywood South. Who knows, maybe it will be New York City for me. They have fashion, business, and WEATHER. Rain, snow, sun, all of the things I enjoy. In California, Southern California, when it rains there is always a chance of a mudslide and a house or 6 falling down. I am getting ahead of myself, I am a few steps away from this, but it is better to plan ahead than get stressed when you finally get to that point. I am giving California a Digit...Down. This could change in the future, maybe a Digit up or 2 Down.

...Meryl Streep

When you think of Meryl Streep I bet the 1st thing you think of is comedy queen right? Well she is. Apparently over the last 5 years her comedy movies have racked in 1.3 billion. Mamma Mia earned $610 million worldwide alone, it was also her biggest hit. The Devil Wears Prada, Julie & Julia and It's Complicated also helped her with that major total. She beat out Sarah Jessica Parker with $916 million earned, Katherine Heigl with $773 million earned, although I do not know how that happened at all, Cameron Diaz with $768 million earned adn finally Anne Hathaway with $727 million earned, maybe some of that was thanks to Streep's role in The Devil Wears Prada... I find it hard not to like Streep. I have not tried, but I could not if I wanted to. She is a great actress and seems like a wonderful person. She is Hollywood gold, a true A-List celebrity in a field of wannabes. I am giving Meryl a Digit up.

...Hollywood

I have dissed Hollywood in the past for lacking vreativity and whatnot with the realese of horrible remake of televison shows and movies that were better off left alone. But now something good has come out of Hollywood, peace? Possibly. These WikiLeaks that have been causing a ton of embarrassment for the U.S. Government have also shed a light into the way American television shows have helped us without even trying become more human to those who hate us. Shows like Friends and Desperate Housewives show a different side of us, less political and "evil" and more humorous and family oriented. One of the leaked cables said this:
"During the recent Eid holiday, Rotana's 'Fox Movies' channel repeatedly aired two mawkish US dramas (again with Arabic subtitles) featuring respectful, supportive American husbands dealing with spouses suffering from addiction problems -- in one case gambling (lost the kids' college funds and then told her college professor husband it was because he was boring) and the other alcohol (smashing cars and china when she wasn't assaulting the husband and child.) These films and others broadcast over the Eid offer models of supportive behavior in relationships, as well as exemplary illustrations of heroic honesty in the face of corruption ('Michael Clayton') and respect for the law over self-interest ('Insomnia.')"

It seems as if Hollywood may be doing something right, although one of the key figures in this "fight" is David Letterman and he is based in New York... Any who I am going to give Hollywood a Digit Up for once, take it while you can.

...Harry Potter

Harry Potter got taken down at the theaters this weekend. "Tangled" a movie based on the Rapunzel fairy-tail open in second place last week, but it came roaring back and stole first place away from "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 1". It not only lost first place, it lost by about $5.5 million. We are all over Harry Potter, now he knows it. I have never read a book or seen a movie or have had any of his paraphernalia in my home, thank God, but I have been over him since the day I saw all of the little nerds waiting outside of any bookstore with his book around midnight waiting for them to open up, losers! Any who this is good and maybe Potter will be like number 5. I am giving Harry Potter a Digit Down just because I do not like him...it.

...Leslie Nielsen

About two months ago I was on Wikipedia and I decided to look up one of my favorite actors, Leslie Nielsen. His back story was awesome. I had no clue he was abused as a child by his father. I also did not know he was deaf. Today I found out that he was dead, and I must say that I am truly saddened. He died at the age of 84 due to complications from pneumonia.

As I child I grew up watching Naked Gun movies and to this day I still think they are some of the funniest movies I have ever seen. I watch them pretty much every time they are on and I still enjoy them very much. He has been making movie and T.V. shows for 60 years. Starting with series acting roles, he eventually moved into funny roles, roles that made him a legend. I know that I am not the only one who will miss him. I must admit that two months ago when I looked him up I was just making sure he was still alive. That is how I felt every time I saw him in a new movie or on a show, I was just happy to know that he was still alive. All good things must come to an end, but I am glad he left us with such great memories and laughs galore. Leslie Nielsen...you get 2 Digits Up.

...Bill Clinton

Bill Clinton is in a movie filmed in Bangkok, Thailand! It is not a porn though. If you have not heard well here you go. Former President Bill Clinton will be in the new movie, "The Hangover 2", yes this is true. He filmed his scene Saturday and I can only imagine what he did. Not much is reported about the scene or anything. We do know that he will be playing himself, what a stretch, and that is basically it. I think that if there were to add Monica Lewinsky into this movie and then I am sure they will have a hit, trust me I know movies. This movie already had a lot of press about it from the time they announced that it was going to be mode and even more after they added and then dropped Mel Gibson from the movie in a cameo. Bill has nothing to gain or lose, this will just add to his legacy of cool in America and around the world. I am giving Bill a Digit Up of course. Why? Because he gave me one first.

...The Hangover 2

Mel Gibson just cannot catch a break. It was widely reported that he would be making a cameo in the new movie " The Hangover 2". Now just 4 days after that came out it is being reported that his scenes were cut from the movie. Director Todd Phillips had this to say, "I thought Mel would have been great in the movie and I had the full backing of [WB president] Jeff Robinov and his team. But I realize filmmaking is a collaborative effort, and this decision ultimately did not have the full support of my entire cast and crew." Apparently Zach Galifianakis had a problem with Mel being in the movie. In a podcast interview he said this, "But a movie you're acting in, you don't have a lot of control -- you just show up and vomit your lines out. I'm not the boss. I'm in a deep protest right now with a movie I'm working on, up in arms about something. But I can't get the guys to [listen] ... I'm not making any leeway." No mention of Mel per se but it was implied. On the other hand some think that the backlash from the media was a little to blame if not the whole reason why his scenes were cut. Some believe that if the media had not said anything about it no one would have cared until the movie was out, too late then, and that he would have been well received. I think that this is bad for Mel. This was supposed to be his mini comeback, like when Mike Tyson was cameoed in the 1st movie. Now Mel must wait for his other movie with Jodie Foster to come out, which could be a failure because now people will not have a proper transition into it. I am giving Mel's cut a Digit Down because I would have loved to have seen him as a tattoo artist. Maybe it will be in the DVD, who knows right?

...Jackass 3D

Are you kidding me? This movie made $50 million this weekend! This is the best October opening for any film ever! his would also be the 2nd best opening this year, Inception was 1st with $63 million. This movie was expected to take in around $30 million, but something must have clicked and fans rushed to see it. It could be the final film of the franchise so I am sure that helped. This movie finally knocked "The Social Network" out of 1st and into 3rd. I did not see this movie, I am not a movie person, if you knew me then you would have already known that... This is major when compared to the other movies. The 1st opened with $23 million and finished with $64 million. The 2nd with $29 million and finished with $73 million. So as you can see not only is this a huge opening but the finish could be just as huge. I hope they do not get any ideas to make a 4th because in all honesty the 3D aspect of the movie totally helped with the overall total, without it probably would have opened at $30 million or less. Any who I am still giving the movie a Digit Up for breaking records and for having a great weekend.

...The Expendables

This movie did something that most somewhat expected it to do but did not actually want to say it, it kicked Julia Roberts' butt, by $11.3 million. Wow this movie (staring Sylvester Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Steve Austin, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Dolph Lundgren, Bruce Willis and Mickey Rourke) not only was the number 1 movie over the weekend, it beat out America's Sweetheart, or former sweetheart, Julia Roberts' much hyped movie "Eat, Pray, Love" I think that movie just killed us with the overexposure. Everywhere I looked I saw a commercial or article about the clothing, the food, the traveling, the spirtual awesomeness of that movie and blah blah blah whatever. Now back to "The Expendables". This movie took in $35 million in ticket sales, imagine if it would have been in crappy 3-D. Although not a ton of money, for this awkward back to school, some kids are in school, time of the year it was not so bad. If it makes over $10 million next weekend then I will be even more surprised. This movie was probably fun for them and I guess the people who saw it had fun as well, I did not see it because I.....just would not pay to see it. However I am giving these old guys a Digit Up for being in the number 1 movie this week.
