All My Children ends today. Another soap has ended due to low ratings. This one is known for the famous multiple Emmy losing Susan Lucci. Though it is not the longest running soap ever, it still has a special place in
many people's hearts. The show may still have some life though. There are rumors that it could be moving to the Internet and become a regular web series. This may be true, but some of the cast members may not follow, it really would not be the same online or without the core cast members. I am giving this news a Digit Down because as time goes on a lot of our favorite shows will be cancelled due to unreal ratings expectations.
It seems like networks are going on a cancelling spree, though this time they got it right. Kate Plus 8 has been cancelled by TLC. In a statement to the press TLC said, "TLC has decided not to renew another season of 'Kate Plus 8.' By the end of this season, 'Kate Plus 8' will have hit the 150 episode mark (including "Jon & Kate Plus 8"); an exceptional milestone. TLC hopes to check in with Kate and the family periodically with specials in the future." The show has been on since 2007 and we have seen the kids grow up and we have seen the parents divorce and we have seen Kate become a monster, though she says she is not, it is hard to believe. TLC will most likely do specials, as they have said, on the kids such as their first day of middle school, high school, learning how to drive, graduation, college, etc. Or if Kate gets married...more cosmetic surgery...etc. Kate will probably go on other reality shows or get her own, who knows. I just wonder if octomom will get a show on TLC now that she no longer has to compete with Kate... I am giving this news a Digit Up. I just want to see
what she will do for money now that she no longer has this show.
After having time to digest the news I am still not over it. ABC has cancelled Desperate Housewives, one of my favorite shows. They will make the 8th season the last season, instead of the 9th that was planned. Their reason, too expensive. When the show premiered it was averaging 24 million viewers, last season it averaged 12 million. That is still very high. There are so many channels to choose from and so many people are choosing to watch TV shows online a day or two after the original airing of a show that no show really commands a ton of viewers anymore. Apparently the cast salaries and the cost to produce the show are becoming too much for ABC...LIES! I have no clue what show will replace it, though I have a clue they will replace it with a show that they think is cool but it will fail, maybe they will move private practice or Grey's Anatomy to Sunday, though I doubt it. I am not liking this choose at all. After the season wraps up all we can hope for is maybe another season or maybe a really really good movie, but just one not a crappy second movie like Sex and t
he City. ABC is getting 2 Digits Down from me.
Well after about 2 years it is all over, no not this blog, Lopez Tonight. George Lopez announced last night that his show was ending and apparently the final show will air...Thursday, as I post this. He said, “Settle down, settle down. I only have until tomorrow night. So today I lost some work because I’m brown. But I also got some work because I’m blue." He was referring to his work as Grouchy for The Smurfs movie, which has already been greenlighted for a sequel, oy. Reasons for the show's cancellation range from cost cutting measures, which is what networks executives said, to the speculative fact that Conan's ratings are slipping and they cost Lopez ratings as well. Lopez was on at 11PM but moved to 12AM when Conan joined the network last Fall. Oddly enough this comes almost 2 weeks after George made some rather unfriendly comments about how
he and other late night show host hate Jay Leno. This goes to prove that you mess with Leno, you lose your job. I am giving Lopez Tonight a Digit Down for ending, and ending during the Summer without a chance to try to recapture an audience during the Fall when more people are less busy and willing to watch television.
How dare you FOX! How dare you cancel "America's Most Wanted" after 23 great years on the air! FOX decided that it was not worth it having the show on. The show averaged 5 million viewers this season. am pretty sure those hardcore fans are going to be pissed when they hear about this. Honestly 5million viewers is very good. It is a show that airs on Saturday nights at 9 o'clock. Where are you on Saturday at 9PM? Probably not home watching television! America's Most Wanted has 1,151-and-counting worldwide captures, something that a lot of people are thankful for. The show became the first-ever FOX program to rank first in its time slot in 1989. As most of us know the show was created by John Walsh after his son was murdered and decapitated. Walsh has spent the his life trying his best to protect the masses and he has done very well. In return for cancelling the show Fox said it will air four two hour specials next season....yay!(sarcasm). They are literally replacing the show with re-runs of their weekly prime time lineup, so basically just Glee reruns, a show I have yet to watch and never will watch. Walsh had a few things to say but his parting words were, "Television is a business and I understand that. But you never know: We came back once, stronger than ever. ... I'm
not ready to throw in the towel." Neither am I John, but I am going to give FOX 2 Digits Down for this heinous crime.
This first jobless actor is the guy we loved, loathed, hated, and then kind of missed. Paul Marcarelli, though still under contract, will be phased out of his acting job. Who is Paul Marcarelli? If I said "can you hear me now?" would that ring a bell? He is the Verizon guy known for his signature phrase. He has been doing those commercials for the last 9 years, wow time flys. He is happy to be moving on with this new chapter in his life, so he says. In an interview with The Atlantic he told them how at his grandmother's funeral a family friend whispered "Can you hear me now?" as her body was being lowered into the ground. Also he told them how as a gay man kids used to drive past his home in Guilford, Connecticut, at night, yelling, "Can you hear me now?" and spewing gay slurs. He says he never filed a police report because he was afraid of the publicity. He needed the $6,000 per commercial job, and he did not want to jeopardize that at all. Now he is moving on and he has already written and co-produced "The Green," about a gay couple who are ostracized living in a small town. He added, "I still want to make something of value." Good luck to you with that I say.
Now we move on to the actors and actresses of "All My Children" and "One Life to Live". ABC announced that they will bee cancelling these daytime soap opera classics. CBS has already cancelled most of theirs so why not follow. I guess they plan on replacing them with future talk
shows...oy. "All My Children" will end in September 2011 while "One Life to Live" will finish its run in January 2012. "All My Children" premiered on January 5, 1970 and has received more than 30 Emmy Awards. "One Life to Live" debuted on July 15, 1968, and received its first Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series in 2002. I am sure there will be a lot of elders and a lot of housewives and some househusbands, who are going to very upset with this news, but I do know for a fact that they are not going to reverse their decision. I think we will all miss the ageless Susan Lucci, what will she do now? I am not sure but we will see her somewhere, though I doubt she will look older. I am going to give these newly jobless actors and actresses a Digit Down. I will also say this, welcome to the other side of America!
CBS has decided to cancel Two and a Half Men for the rest of the season after Charlie Sheen made some rather interesting comments earlier Thursday morning on a The Alex Jones Show. This is what he said: "I was told if I went on the attack, they would cancel the show and all that and so I'm just sort of seeing if they're telling the truth or not. Are they happy with the $5 billion they already made off me or do they think they can turn it into $10 [billion] in a couple more seasons?" Charlie continued. "I'm just saying, you know [the show] is a runaway freakin' juggernaut. Do what you've gotta do -- I'll go make movies with superstars and not work with idiots" In response later that evening CBS ans Warner Brothers said, "Based on the totality of Charlie Sheen's statements, conduct and condition, CBS and Warner Bros. Television have decided to discontinue production of 'Two and a Half Men' for the remainder of the season." This is major. The crew of the show was already pissed with Charlie for them not getting paid for the 2 weeks they were suspended for him to go through "rehab". He said he would pay a portion of the crew's wages while they were off. I wonder if he will keep that promise now! Is this a surprise? We all know who Carlie Shee
n is and they should too. I bet CBS is regretting the almost $2 million per episode contract they gave him because now he can pretty much do whatever he wants and still get paid. The ball is in his court though and it is up tot him if he wants the show to go on. If the show is cancelled he has enough money to life happily ever after and like he said he can go off and do movies, although it may be harder with his recent string of activity. Still I am not a fan of the show but it is hugely popular and I am sure fans will be upset that it is cancelled. Hard ball or not no one wins in the end. Digit Down.
Not long ago Lauren Conrad was MTV's reality show darling. Her show "The Hills' was a smash hit and she was selling books and a lifestyle that little tweens wanted. Then she left the show, it ended and now we have Jersey Shore. Due to their success MTV has pulled Lauren's show. Her new show was to premier this year and it was about her launching her fashion company etc. "We sold a show to MTV, filmed it and are really proud of the final result. MTV felt the subject matter was too high brow for their audience and offered me the opportunity to change the show by incorporating more of my personal life." Basically what this means is that her show as BORING! Not enough drama! This is what is halting the premiere of the Real Housewives of New York as well. Drama sells, fighting sells, ratings sell ads/ This is something that Lauren knows, but I guess she thought her old brand was still valuable to MTV, not. David Janollari, EVP, Head of Programming for MTV, told Entertainment Weekly magazine: "We decided not to go ahead with the show. She did do a pilot. There were talks about whether we could somehow manage to put together a special based on that footage but that's also a big question mark based on her interest in that and the finances. We love her! We would love her on our
network! It was a great attempt but it just didn't feel like a perfect fit for us now." Well Lauren, maybe Bravo or TLC will buy this, until then I am giving you a Digit Down.
