Last night while attempting to watch the Emmys I saw this commercial for J'adore. I have loved their commercials in the past so I was expecting another good one, and I must say I was not disappointed.
Charlize Theron reprised her role as...main lady and she looked stunning in the end in that gold creation. Throughout the commercial you see famous female entertainers of the past, including Marilyn Monroe, Grace Kelly and Marlene Dietrich, all added trough digital technology. The music was great. I am a fan of The Gossip and I have been listening to that song, "Heavy Cross" for years. It is nice to see them get more mainstream coverage. I am giving this commercial 2 Digits Up. It was just beautiful.
This first jobless actor is the guy we loved, loathed, hated, and then kind of missed. Paul Marcarelli, though still under contract, will be phased out of his acting job. Who is Paul Marcarelli? If I said "can you hear me now?" would that ring a bell? He is the Verizon guy known for his signature phrase. He has been doing those commercials for the last 9 years, wow time flys. He is happy to be moving on with this new chapter in his life, so he says. In an interview with The Atlantic he told them how at his grandmother's funeral a family friend whispered "Can you hear me now?" as her body was being lowered into the ground. Also he told them how as a gay man kids used to drive past his home in Guilford, Connecticut, at night, yelling, "Can you hear me now?" and spewing gay slurs. He says he never filed a police report because he was afraid of the publicity. He needed the $6,000 per commercial job, and he did not want to jeopardize that at all. Now he is moving on and he has already written and co-produced "The Green," about a gay couple who are ostracized living in a small town. He added, "I still want to make something of value." Good luck to you with that I say.
Now we move on to the actors and actresses of "All My Children" and "One Life to Live". ABC announced that they will bee cancelling these daytime soap opera classics. CBS has already cancelled most of theirs so why not follow. I guess they plan on replacing them with future talk
shows...oy. "All My Children" will end in September 2011 while "One Life to Live" will finish its run in January 2012. "All My Children" premiered on January 5, 1970 and has received more than 30 Emmy Awards. "One Life to Live" debuted on July 15, 1968, and received its first Emmy Award for Outstanding Drama Series in 2002. I am sure there will be a lot of elders and a lot of housewives and some househusbands, who are going to very upset with this news, but I do know for a fact that they are not going to reverse their decision. I think we will all miss the ageless Susan Lucci, what will she do now? I am not sure but we will see her somewhere, though I doubt she will look older. I am going to give these newly jobless actors and actresses a Digit Down. I will also say this, welcome to the other side of America!
The Citizens Against Government Waste are against well government waste, and who can really blame them? I am totally in love with their commercials that has been deemed too "controversial" for some networks to air. I happened to see it on a channel, I cannot recall what network aired it, but thank you to those who are willing to show it. This commercial is pretty much what a lot of insiders are thinking, but are too afraid to say. I instantly thought of one of my favorite commercials, the 1984 Apple Macintosh Super Bowl commercial. However the commercial is more on the lines of another controversial commercial from the 1980's directed by Ridley Scott. This commercial was banned because it also dealt with the topic of the rising government debt. Though this commercial may not be seen by all those who do see it will be curious about its message, especially those who are not actively involved in politics. I am giving this Citizens Against Government Waste 2 Digits Up for, lack of a better word, having the balls to make this commerical to begin with.
I did not get the memo stating tomatoes were now a vegetable. As a child we all thought they were, but now we know better, all of us except the people at Ragu. They really could have picked other actual vegetable and this commercial would have been fine; carrots, onions, broccoli, etc. we would have accepted it, but not this. Tomatoes are only vegetables for culinary reasons, which sounds a little sketchy, but we need to all understand that it is a fruit. Once we universally recognize it as a fruit things like this would not happen again. I am giving Ragu a Digit Down for further confusing the masses.
There were a few low lights during the Super Bowl this year, the National Anthem "remix" and the Halftime show, but these commercials salvaged it for me. I am giving these few a Digit Up.
Bristol Palin may be stirring up controversy on "Dancing with the Stars" just be not being eliminated week after week, which I do not mind, but she has not forget her other job, besides being a mother of course. In a new commercials featuring Mike "The Situation" Sorrentino the two talk about abstinence and safe sex. From the start I though the PSA was totally awkward. Bristol seems uncomfortable and comfortable at the same time...hard to explain. I think that both of them had an awkward chemistry. While the message was good, the delivery was shotty at best. You be the judge.
See what I mean? This was comical, not informative in my eyes. Maybe next time you guys. I am giving this a Digit Down.
