Is it left for Mongolia?

Shane and his friends are travelling from Dublin to Mongolia and back in a 1982 Land Rover to raise money for charity. 10,000 miles there - 10,000 miles back 21 Countries, 3 Continents, 3 Deserts, 5 Mountain ranges 3 Friends 2 Charities 1 Land Rover.

RIVER CROSSING PART 1



"I've been a Wild Rover for many a year ........."

In April 2011, Shane Maguire, Daniel Lambert and Shay Cloherty began their attempt to drive a 1982 Land Rover from Dublin to Ulan Bator, Mongolia. Their route takes them through Southern Europe, Turkey, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan and onto Mongolia. They reached their goal last week and are now on the 10,000 mile trip back on a more northerly route through Russia.



Why are they doing this momentous trip??

Firstly to raise money for two charities, Our Lady's Children’s hospital in Crumlin and The Christina Noble Foundation who have orphanage in Mongolia. Secondly to have as much fun along the way as possible and keep everyone updated with videos and photos!

All donations received are going DIRECTLY to the two causes and no money at all is being used to fund the trip. They would however love to speak to any companies/individuals who could support us with useful items such as GPS/Tyres/Parts for the Jeep etc,:

...Vladimir Putin

Vladimir Putin is probably one of the richest and most powerful men on the earth, although there is no proof of his "actual wealth", some say he is worth billions, he says just a few million. He was President of Russia and now he is Prime Minister of Russia. He hunts, he could probably fight a bear, and win, and if you ask me he could possibly be the most interesting man in the world, that is a tad much but yo get the point. Well recently he sang a song for charity. I do not think he was the worst singer int he world, but it kind of reminded me of those MadTV skits when they had Hitler and Elton John sing a duet, not calling Putin Hitler, but their tones were somewhat similar. Still I am giving him a Digit Up for having the balls to do it in front of other Russian celebrities and big shots in the crowd.

...Keep A Child Alive Campaign

It seems as if fans or "fans" do not mind if their celebrities are off Facebook and Twitter. What am I talking about? The Keep A Child Alive charity founded by Alicia Keys promised that some celebrities such as: Ryan Seacrest, Kim Kardashian, Lady Gaga, Serena Williams, Justin Timberlake, and Elijah Wood would not post updates on the popular social sites until $1 million was raised. It actually said this, "The world's top celebrities are sacrificing their digital lives to give real life to millions of people affected by HIV/AIDS in Africa and India," the campaign states. "That means no more Twitter or Facebook updates from any of them. No more knowing where they are, what they had for dinner, or what interesting things are happening in their lives. From here on out, they're dead. Kaput. Finished." This campaign start Wednesday on World AIDS Day. While the cause is serious, the outcome is somewhat funny. It seems as if fans or "fans" just do not care to hear from these overexposed celebrities anymore. As of 7:30PM Thursday they raised just under $181,000. A lot of these celebs get paid to Tweet and are on TV all day everyday, I can only imagine what it is like to have a break from these people. I am sure the money will be raised, even if the celebs have to throw in their own money, not a Kardashian though. Some might say that this is due to the bad economy and the $10 minimum donation that was set up, which is not a good idea. I think that would be the most minor of the problems. Second would be the fact that no one really knew about this, the celebs forgot to tweet about it I guess. Number one, no one but tweens, teens and the people paid to follow them care that much about celebrities anymore. We see them too often, much too often. There is no mystery thus there is no interest. Like an exposed whore on the street corner, we will pass. I am giving this whole thing a Digit Down.
