I do believe my time on Facebook will be coming to an end soon. I do not want to put a date on it but I can see myself logging off for good by the end of the year. They say most people who leave usually come back. The people who say this would be Facebook themselves, they have all of this data on hand for no reason at all, or so they would want you to believe. Basically the only reason I am on there is for games and for some occasional people watching, but as the real world and life gets busier things have to change and or go away completely. I would rather leave it before it left me as well. Do you remember where you were when Myspace became uncool? I am giving Facebook a Digit Down just because.
Earlier this week it was announced that Groupon was preparing to go public. While this was interesting it was not a huge wave maker, that and everyone is still waiting for Facebook to go public, it is sure to be as popular as Google was when it went public. But then Friday Zynga announced that is was going public and that was something that peaked my interest. Zynga does something, it makes games, games played by millions of people around the world. Zynga is estimated to be worth $14.5 billion due to hits like FarmVille, FishVille and Mafia Wars just to name a few. Zynga is sure to make a lot of money on its opening day. Unlike Linkedln and Groupon Zynga makes money. Groupn has lost $527 million last year and the 1st quarter of this year combined, and Linkedln only made $15 million last year and before that is virtually made no money
at all. If you are a risk taker and like to make fast money I would seriously advise you to take all of your money and invest in Zynga when it goes public, I will. I am giving this news 2 Digits Up for sure.
Hollywood is upset with someone... Who? President Barack Obama. Why? A few weeks ago the Obama administration announced it would no longer legally defend the Defense of Marriage act, and now some of his Hollywood supporters are upset and even pissed with him. They wrote even wrote him a letter, that I am 115% sure he will read, and here it is:
The President
The White House
Washington, DC 20500
Dear Mr. President:
In February, you made a powerful statement about the law.
Invoking guarantees enshrined in the Constitution, you and the Attorney General determined that federal discrimination against gay and lesbian couples in marriage is unconstitutional. Thank you for taking a principled stance and an important step toward equal protection under the law for all Americans.
Today we ask you to take the next step and join the majority of Americans who support allowing loving and committed gay and lesbian couples to legally marry.
Mr. President, marriage matters. In law, in love, in life, marriage says "we are family" in a way that nothing else does. Marriage is the coming together of two lives, marked by a public promise of love and responsibility in front of friends and family. And marriage brings not only public respect and personal significance, but also a safety net of legal protections, rights, and responsibilities for which there is no substitute.
Like so many Americans, you have spoken of your personal journey toward support for the freedom to marry. You have talked about the gay and lesbian people in your life, their commitment to each other and care for their kids, and their families that aren't so different from any other family.
We ask you now for your leadership on ending the exclusion of same-sex couples from marriage, an exclusion that harms millions of Americans each day. Whether to end discrimination in marriage is a question America has faced before, and faces again today. With so many Americans talking it through in heartfelt conversations, it is a question that calls for clarity from the President.
You can offer hope to millions of young gay and lesbian Americans who are facing discrimination. You can tell them that their future is bright, that they, too, will be able to grow up and marry the person that they love, that the pursuit of happiness truly belongs to all of us. You can put government on the side of those seeking to care for their loved ones, instead of those standing in their way. You can affirm that for all of us, gay or non-gay, love is love and commitment counts— and that we Americans should treat others as we all want to be treated.
Mr. President, the time to end exclusion from marriage is now. We ask you to complete your journey and join us and the majority of Americans who support the freedom to marry.
Sincerely,

Some of these names are pretty powerful people and HUGE donors. David Geffen is a billionaire. Sean Parker helped Obama reach the youth via Facebook, as former President of Facebook that was not so hard for him to do. Chris Hughs is openly gay and co-founded Facebook. He and his partner/husband are very upset with the president, especially since Chris not only campaigned for Obama, he worked for the administration as well. Last month Matt Damon and Jane Lynch expressed their disappointment with the president on the issue as well. While the president said he supports civil unions, that is not good enough for a lot of gay Americans. He also said his views on same-sex marriage were "evolving". Whatever the case may be he is about to launch his 2012 re-election campaign and tour and this is an issue that will hound him and could cost him some votes with the hardcore liberals, although I doubt it. Still the 2012 election is not too far away for Hollywood to start making films that bash Obama. I am giving Hollywood a Digit Up for speaking up and out against something they actually truly thought would change...they are so gullible.
Facebook, the fad that does not want to die fast, just got a $500 million investment form Goldman Sachs and a Russian investor. What does this mean for you? Well for one it means that Facebook can stay a private company for at least 1 more year, but more importantly it puts the company's value at $50 billion! This is twice as much as Yahoo, more than ebay, and it is equal to Boeing and Kraft. All of those companies are public though, so can you imagine what it wil be worth once it goes public? If it ever goes public... When Google went public is was valued at $24 billion, not it is worth $200 billion. Amazon is also worth more than Facebook, just in case that one other person reading this cared. I do not know what Facebook really does... It allows you to stalk people, it allows you to be whomever you would like to be, it allows you to play games, but hat is it. Facebook is a large space for advertising. Facebook is a better version of Myspace. A more thoughtful version of Twitter. What will its long term purpose be? Mark Zuckerbeg and the other people in charge are the only people who will make money at the end of the day. When this 500 million friend bubble burst, they will be long gone from the operation, young and rich. I do not know how a company that does nothing on the level of Boeing, America's largest exporter. I guess it is a sign of the tim
es. How does a person go from being someone's friend to having a sex tape to making $6 million dollars last year? How does someone go from male stripper, to reality TV guy with a stupid name on a controversial show, to having a hit reality show, a stupid but "catchy" nickname and making $5 million dollars last year? In a do-nothing world with do-noting people we should not expect anything more I am giving this a Digit Down.
With the highly anticipated movie coming out this Friday, The Social Network, and with the founder, Mark Zuckerberg, giving $100 million to the Newark school area last week on Oprah, a man who has an estimated net worth of $6.9 billion, a new question is being raised, how much is Facebook worth? A couple of years ago Mark's net worth was $1.5 billion and Microsoft estimated that Facebook was worth about $15 billion. Now that employees are selling shares of the company to others on the secondary market, it is estimated that the company may be worth up to $76 a share or $33 billion. This seems a little extreme to me, but it could be possible. Technically Mark Zuckrberg is paper rich, cash poor. The company does not have to go public until more than 500 people have shares of the company, that is what happened to Google, which is worth $529.76 a share. Eventually if not sold Facebook may go public. There is still a chance that a lot of very wealthy private investors and companies will continue to pour money into Facebook until they own mostly all of it. Since the company is not public they do not have to
disclose finance records, so no one really knows how much it is worth, everything out is just estimates based on current activity. I could imagine this being one big bust in a few more years. I am giving Facebook a Digit Up because I love the mystery of it all and in the end "the Facebook" will win and Mark Zuckerberg will go home with more than a few pennies to rub together.
